reverse graffiti.
instead of using actual spray cans…some artist are just cleaning dirt off of certain areas to make their masterpieces. and they are calling it reverse graffiti. kind of brilliant.

[wall by a road, with reverse graffiti in the shape of tree-shapes on rolling hills]

HarrasMap tracks reports of sexual harassment in Egypt.
The Next Web Middle East:

If you’ve ever been to Cairo, you’ll know that, as a woman, walking down the streets of the city, the chances that you’ll get harassed are sadly pretty high. I actually cringe writing that and there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to acknowledge it publicly. Whether it’s because as Middle Eastern women, we’ve been conditioned not to talk about it, or because it tarnishes the country’s image, I can’t tell. But that way of thinking is probably part of the inspiration behind the relatively new Cairo-based initiative, HarassMap.
[…]
The very act of reporting the incident is the first step in awareness, as Engy explains. “The main idea is to provide women with a platform where they can speak up, share their thoughts and experiences.”

Hip Hop Genius: Remixing High School Education

A must watch video that explores the concept of “hip-hop genius”. It explores the idea of taking hip-hop’s creative energy and using it to transform the high school educational system. Very well presented with drawings by Mike McCarthy. Soak it in, then share it.

    SoulBounce does it again!

    The Mixologists: Keyknow’s ‘Acoustically Speaking’

June is finally here, and as we segue into summer, these warmer days sometimes call for music that you can just chill out to. With that in mind, our resident Mixologist Keyknow has amassed a collection of laid-back gems on Acoustically Speaking. This mix showcases stripped-down acoustic selections by some of our SoulBounce faves — Eric Roberson, Anthony David, Reel People, and Janelle Monáe to name a few. Every last artist featured on this mix (peep the complete tracklist after the bounce) can sing without the aid of studio tricks, and their undeniable talent shines through on these cuts like the morning sun peeking through the curtains. In this age of Auto-Tune, singers who can’t sing, and overproduced material, Acoustically Speaking takes it back to the basics. [Image: Tafari K. Stevenson-Howard/Photo: Doug Wheller]
